Hey, welcome to my first podcast episode. I'm so glad you're tuning in today. I'm Doctor Aaron Dushkin, and this is the Heights Chiropractic Center podcast, coming to you from right here in Houston. Today we're tackling something I think is really overdue — and that's clearing up what chiropractors actually do. Because honestly? There are a lot of myths floating around out there. And some of them, um, they might actually be keeping people from getting help they really need. So let's talk about it. Okay, so the first myth I hear all the time is — "chiropractors just crack your back." And I get it. That's kind of the image people have, right? Someone walks in, there's a pop, and they walk out. But here's the thing... what we actually do goes so much deeper than that. Chiropractic care is about your nervous system. Your spine houses and protects your spinal cord, and when joints aren't moving the way they should — whether from stress, posture, an old injury, whatever it is — that can affect how your entire body functions. The adjustment is a tool. A precise, targeted tool. It's not just "cracking" for the sake of it. There's a reason behind every single thing we do. Now, myth number two. And this one, um, I hear it a lot from new patients — "once you start going to a chiropractor, you have to go forever." I understand why people think that. But that's just not true. Treatment is always, always tailored to the individual. Some people come in for a specific issue — like low back pain or a stiff neck — we address it, they feel better, and they're on their way. Other people, like, they genuinely enjoy coming in for maintenance care because it helps them stay active and feel their best. That's a personal choice. We never pressure anyone. Our goal is to help you reach your goals — whatever those look like for you. And then there's myth number three — "chiropractic isn't backed by science." This one honestly surprises me, because the research supporting chiropractic care for conditions like low back pain, neck pain, and headaches is really solid. Major health organizations around the world recognize chiropractic as a legitimate, effective option for musculoskeletal conditions. Is it a cure-all? No. We would never claim that. But for what we treat, the evidence is there, and it's growing. So here's what you can do starting today. Pay attention to how you're sitting — especially if you're working from home or at a desk. Take breaks. Move your body. Stretch your neck gently. And honestly? If something has been bothering you — a nagging ache, tension that won't go away, headaches you just keep pushing through — don't wait. Those things don't usually fix themselves. If you've been curious about chiropractic but weren't sure what to expect, or if you've heard something that made you hesitant, I'd love the chance to talk with you. At Heights Chiropractic Center, we take time with every single patient. We listen. We explain things. And we make a plan together. There's no pressure, and no judgment — just real care. You can reach us by calling the office, or head over to our website to learn more or book a consultation. We're right here in Houston, and we'd love to meet you. Thanks so much for spending a few minutes with me today. I hope this cleared some things up, and hey — if you know someone who's been on the fence about chiropractic, share this episode with them. It might be exactly what they needed to hear. This is Doctor Aaron Dushkin with Heights Chiropractic Center. Take care of yourselves, and we'll talk soon.
